Why this exists
Solar is sold on one number the customer cannot work out themselves: how long until it pays for itself. Most sites answer it with a brochure figure that assumes a roof nobody has.
This estimator starts from the customer’s actual bill, sizes a system, and shows generation, offset and payback — with the electricity price, specific yield and shading all visible and editable. Payback uses the cost the customer types in, so it reflects a real quote rather than an invented one.

Questions
- Where do the default numbers come from?
- The 1,600 kWh/kWp specific yield and €0.13/kWh are typical Maltese values used as a starting point. Both are editable on the page, and both are listed in the assumptions under every result.
- Why does payback need my quoted cost?
- Because we will not invent a system price. Payback is only honest when it is divided by a real quote, so the customer supplies that number.
- Does it account for feed-in tariffs?
- Not separately. The current model values generated energy at the electricity price entered, and says so in the assumptions. Tariff-specific logic can be built in per market.
- Is the estimate binding?
- No. It is a planning figure. Real output depends on pitch, orientation, shading, weather and equipment — which is exactly why the shading factor is a visible input.
